Wiki

So, after some discussion on this thread on VJ, I wrote an updated wiki on the NVC process, incorporating links and an FAQ I wrote from previous posts. It's now being used as an NVC guide on VisaJourney, so woohoo :)

You can find the wiki here. Took me more than 3 hours to put together, so hope everyone likes it ^_^

    1. It will always vary on time frames. It's dependent on what POE you went through and how busy USCIS is at the moment. Most people receive their green card within a few weeks though. Just keep an eye out on your mailbox.

As for the SSN, did you check off yes on the DS-260 that you wanted the SSA to issue you one?

    2. thanks .. yes i have checked yes on it.

    3. Then just wait. If the SSN doesn't come in the mail in 3 weeks from POE, then go to your local SSA office and apply in person. That's what I had to do. You can read about it right here on my blog.

  3. Hello Lindsay, your guide is very helpful, thank you.
I've read over there that one needs to write full name/birthdate/case number on the back of the 2 photos. I've never seen this info on the official websites, I wonder whether I should do this or not?

    1. I would HIGHLY suggest you do it. If those photos get misplaced and they have nothing written on the back, it'll be impossible to relocate them, thus NVC will just issue a checklist for the missing photos. So why not take the few seconds and write it?

  4. Hi Saylin,

You've been very helpful to everyone here, big thanks to you:) We are currently processing the affidavit of support, hope you could help me with my questions: 1. if a person wants to sponsor a 2 principal immigrants, does she needs to file separate I-184 for each immigrant?
    2. The sponsor files her taxes aas married filing jointly, so what would be the entered in the current income in the form I-184? the combined income with her husband? this is a bit confusing, though we can refer to W2 individual income of the person. please help.

    1. 1. Yes, if there's 2 immigrants, they'll each need their own I-864. And remember, the sponsor will need income above the poverty line for a household size including themselves, BOTH immigrants, as well as anyone else in their household.

      2. For current income, she'd just put her own INDIVIDUAL income, as it states in the question. For the question on income amounts from previous years' tax information, that's when she'd put the combined income of hers and her husband's. If she's sending in tax transcripts as tax information proof, she'll need to include her W2s to show her own income for those past years.

  5. I am filing for my mom. I am the petioner. I work but do not make enough.
I would say under poverty level. My fiance is supporting me. he will be my coapplicant. I understand we have to both file I-864 seperatly.
I read alot from blogs and portals that I have to send the paper format of D-260 becuase my case number starte with ANK. so I paid AOS, first step I guess. Then you are telling me that I have to wait for visa center reply or mail me the documents before I go ahead and submit the DS-230 , meaning the paper format of DS-260 along with my I-864. Am I right?
I also can not find anywhere how much IV is?
I guess they will send all the information to me via mail right. I just needcto be patient. Thank you. Nes

    1. If your fiance lives with you, then you'd file the I-864 and he'd file an I-864A.
Incorrect. EVERYONE is required to file the online DS-260, doesn't matter what country the beneficiary is in. It's only EP (electronic processing) that is eligible to certain countries.
The current IV fee is $325. It just went up on September 12th, 2014.
If you didn't give over email addresses to an operator when the case number was assigned, then yes, some information will be mailed. Expect it to take a few months to receive.

Have you read the wiki I mentioned in the post you're commenting on?

  6. I can not pay for IV online. I can not fil out DS-260 online. Web site will not let me. There is no DS-260 available. The place whete it says pay for IV is not availabe so I can not pay the fee and can not start filing out the DS-260.

    1. The IV fee is only invoiced after the DS-261 has been reviewed and added to the case file. And the DS-260 only becomes available once the IV bill appears as PAID in the payment portal.

  7. I am the petipner and the agent. They have all my information.
My main question is how I pay for IV? How I start filing put DS-260.
Wheere is DS-260 located. I do not have access to DS-260 when I sign in to ceac.state.gov with my case number and invoice ID number. All those ares are blank . Very frustrating.
